Affirmations have made a big impact on my mental health, but I won’t lie and say I’m 100% perfect at it all the time. When I have a low moment and I’m the opposite of affirming myself, I immediately and intentionally have to stop myself in my tracks, run and grab my phone or notebook where I have affirmations written down and start reading them. Sometimes it starts as aggressively and loudly telling myself these affirmations, and then I can pause, breathe, slow down and say them to myself with kindness to help reset my mindset at the time.
Again, I’m not perfect here, but these are some affirmations I use as a first time mom that I can easily turn to and start as a foundation for saying affirmations that apply to me or a specific situation I’m in at the moment.
10 Affirmations for A First Time Mom
- One bad day does not make me a bad mom.
- I don’t need to have all the answers to be a good mom.
- I trust my instincts more every day.
- Every phase is temporary, even this one.
- It’s okay if this doesn’t feel natural all the time.
- I am allowed to ask for help.
- I can handle this moment, even when it feels overwhelming.
- I am learning what my baby needs, one day at a time.
- I am doing better than I think I am.
- I give myself grace as I learn something completely new.
How to Use Affirmations Daily
You can use affirmations in whatever way fits your day best. There’s no “right” way to do this at all!
For me, I keep them in a few easy places so they’re always within reach:
- a note in my phone
- a notebook
- sticky notes on my bathroom mirror
If you can, say them out loud. There’s something powerful about hearing the words, even if it feels a little awkward at first.
And on days when that feels like too much, even quietly repeating them in your head can help shift your mindset.
Start simple. One or two affirmations can be enough to reset your day.
